A faithful replica of a gas mask tensioner. The tensioner is made of a steel spring and aluminum form molds. The spring tightens the mask so that it does not deform during long-term storage. The tensioners were used when the mask was stored outside the container, i.e. most often when soldiers were in barracks.

FOR REENACTMENT?
These tensioners were used in the German Army throughout World War II. They helped maintain the correct shape of the mask during long-term storage. During combat operations, the tensioner was removed and the mask stored in canisters or cases with personal equipment.
