STAMPING PATTERNS
In the original German dog tags, the scheme for stamping a soldier's data was the same for privates, non-commissioned officers and officers. It was as follows:
- top line - the soldier's registration number and blood group - A, B, AB or O. The Germans did not differentiate between positive and negative blood types.
- bottom line - the number of the company. battalion and regiment or division. This information was usually written in the following format: company (denoted by an Arabic numeral or abbreviation, such as St. (from Stamm - company), followed by a slash (“/”), with the name and Roman numeral, usually denoted a battalion unit. Division and regiments were also designated with Arabic numerals. Waffen SS units also had the Sieg runes stamped on them.
