Medal for the joint German-Italian African campaign in 1940-43. Established by the Italian government in January 1943, was awarded only to German members of the DAK. Due to the capitulation of Italy, by order of 29 March 1944, the wearing of all Italian decorations was prohibited. The obverse of the medal depicts two gladiators, symbolizing Italy and Germany, fighting a crocodile, which symbolizes British control of the Suez Canal. The reverse, signifying Italian-German cooperation, depicts a swastika and fasces flanking the triumphal arch "Arco dei Fileni." Beneath the arch is a symbolic knot.
