"Bedienungsanleitung" instruction manuals were an essential element of military training. Therefore, they were issued to all soldiers operating a given type of weapon. The Leuchtpistole 34 and 42 were German signal pistols for which, during the war, not only signal ammunition but also various types of grenades were developed and put into production. Grenades were most commonly used by various infantry formations in the German land forces during World War II.
