FOR REENACTMENT?
The American M1917 uniform system was introduced in 1917 in response to military needs that arose with the United States' entry into the war. This shirt served as the base layer under the uniform jacket. On warmer days or during heavy work in camps and trenches, soldiers wore it as outerwear. Due to the wartime rush of production from 1917 onward, the shades of wool in individual batches of shirts could vary dramatically - from light khaki to dark olive.
