Replica of German Police Tschako - Gendarmerie. The replica is made of natural leather using the embossing method, fittings and insignia are metal. The leather is dyed brown (not patent). Such caps were used in the Gendarmerie, which was a police formation operating in the provinces. Its area of operation was villages and small towns with up to 5,000 inhabitants. The gendarmerie did not operate on the streets of larger cities. Its area of operation began outside the city limits. Together with the Protection Police (Schutzpolizei - Schupo), the gendarmerie was part of the Order Police (Ordnungspolizei - Orpo). The Police Gendarmerie should not be confused with the Feldgendarmerie - (field gendarmerie), which was a Wehrmacht formation that only controlled uniformed members of the German armed forces and paramilitary formations.
