FOR REENACTMENT?

These patches were worn by soldiers of the Azerbaijani Legion, one of the numerous units that comprised the so-called Eastern Legions of the Wehrmacht. As with similar units, it was not a single division, but a collection of battalions dispersed throughout various German army structures. Formed in December 1941 as part of the Caucasian Muslim Legion, it was separated in July 1942 as the independent Azerbaijan Legion, with its main training base in Radom (in the General Government). Units of this type were primarily used on the Eastern Front. Over time, due to a loss of command confidence, many battalions were transferred from the Eastern Front to occupied France and the Netherlands to support the occupation operations. At the end of the war, some units were incorporated into the Waffen-SS, and after Germany's capitulation, most of the soldiers were handed over to the Soviet Union. It is also worth mentioning that two battalions of the 111th Azerbaijani Regiment took part in the suppression of the Warsaw Uprising, participating, among others, in the Wola massacre.
