FOR REENENACTMENT?
The "For Courage" medal was established on October 17, 1938, and was awarded to over 4.6 million Red Army soldiers. The requirement for receiving the medal was to perform a heroic act directly on the front line, making it particularly valued among front-line soldiers. It was also practically the only award given to soldiers in penal battalions. "For Courage" medals were awarded primarily to soldiers, non-commissioned officers, and junior officers. Among those awarded the medal were Joseph Beyrle, the only soldier to serve in both the U.S. Army and the Red Army during World War II, the famous sniper Vasily Zaitsev, the writer Konstantin Paustovsky, and the Home Army's major physician Józef Aleksiewicz.
