These types of patches were worn by Crimean Tatar units, one of the numerous Eastern volunteer units formed after 1941, associated with the German army's advance on the Eastern Front. The patch shown is the second wartime pattern used by this formation. Units of this type were primarily used on the Eastern Front. They most often had a dispersed structure, with individual battalions assigned to larger German units. They were most often used in anti-partisan operations or were delegated to auxiliary tasks.
