A perfect replica of the World War II beret badge of the 2nd Regiment of Dragoons Guards. It depicts a gold wreath surrounding the inscription "Bays" and surmounted by a royal crown. The badge has two eyelets on the back for sewing to the beret.
The 2nd Guards Dragoons, also known as the "Bays", was a cavalry regiment in the British Army. It was formed in 1685 as the Earl of Peterborough's Regiment of Horse from the merger of four existing mounted units. Later, in 1746, it was renamed the Queen's Guard Dragoons after becoming a dragoon unit (highly mobile, mounted infantry with firearms) and in 1767 it was renamed the 2nd Queen's Bays Dragoons to reflect its practice of riding exclusively bay horses. In 1937 the unit was mechanised, incorporating light tanks and becoming part of the Royal Armoured Corps, and after World War II it was incorporated into the 1st Regiment of Dragoons of the Queen's Guard.
