FOR REENACTMENT?
The collective name Bergkaukasien (Mountain Caucasus Legion) referred to volunteers from smaller ethnic groups in the North Caucasus, such as Chechens, Ingush, Dagestanis, Kabardians, and Balkars. This formation was formed in 1942 as one of the Eastern Legions (Ostlegionen), with its main training base in Radom (in the General Government). Units of this type were primarily used on the Eastern Front. Over time, due to a loss of command confidence, many battalions were transferred from the Eastern Front to occupied France and the Netherlands to support the occupation operations.
